Every scope has a protection in 50Ohm input coupling to protect
the input from overloading.
If the coupling goes from 50Ohms to
GND after connecting a signal, the voltage level of the signal is
too high. You have to use an attenuator. Info's about the max.
level can be found on the scope frontpanel or in the Operator's
Manual.
