自己感觉第三段不是太好,但又说不清哪里读着别扭。

The topic is :”Education will be truly effective only when it is specially designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each students.”

The speaker suggests that education should be designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each students in order to be effective. I agree with the speaker insofar as that catering proper needs and interests of individual will be effective to education. However, a comprehensive and compulsory curriculum whatever students are interest in is also necessary for laying the foundation for the balanced development of students.

The chief reason I agree with the statement is that the traditional teacher-centered education ignores the individual needs and interests of each students, which proves counterproductive. Because the role of teacher is to change the learner in some ways, the teacher-student relationship is an important part of education. Sociologists have pointed out that this relationship is asymmetrical and unbalanced, with teacher being in a position of authority and the student having little choice but to passively absorb the same information provided by one teacher. In other words, a conventional classroom there is little opportunities for student to become actively involved in the learning process. But genuine education, as Socrates knew more than two thousand years ago, is not inserting the stuffings of information into a person, but rather eliciting knowledge from him; it is drawing out of what is in the mind. The essence of our effort to see that every child had a chance must be to assure each an equal opportunity, not to become equal, but to become different-to realize whatever unique potential of body, mind, and spirit he or she possesses. A great teacher never strives to explain his vision, he simply invites you to stand beside him and see for yourself.

Another reason why I generally agree with the statement has to do with the force that motivate the student. Only with needs and interests can individual devote giant enthusiasm into scientific and social research and also potential ability and intellect be emerged at certain time. Without interested in music, we never enjoy the glorious and outstanding 5th symphony written by the greatest composer, Beethoven, after he was deaf. Without interested in science, Tomas Edison would be a ordinary person and we possibly still live in a darkness world till now. “The most important part of education,” once wrote William Ernest Hocking, the distinguished Harvard philosopher, “is this instruction of a man in what he has inside him.” And, as Edith Hamilton has reminded us, Socrates never said, “I know, learn from me.” He said, rather, “Look into your own selves and find the spark of truth that God has put into every heart, and that only you can kindle to a flame.” In short, interest plays a significant role as electric generator in study and research. Student-centered education is the most effective way to help students learn.

However, winking at students’ unreasonable desires would only result in chaos in education. Today’s society is developing at breathtaking speed that more generalists are needed. If we merely simply emphasis to meet individual’s needs and interests, the more basic knowledge of education will be ignored. There will be a shift emphasis away from single investigator, working on a particular and narrow area, toward multi-disciplinary teams working on problems driven by societal need.

To sum up, I strongly agree with the speaker that it is truly effective only when it caters individual needs and interests. Student-centered education can most effectively involved students in the learning process. Meanwhile, comprehensive and basic curriculums are indispensable for catering job market in the future.
