Market Share Analysis of China's Discrete Automation

1. Discrete Automation Market - Competitive Landscape

Data Source: Interviews and industry accumulation by Growwin

There are numerous players in China's FA (Factory Automation) market. Currently, the market share of domestic brands has surpassed that of foreign brands, but foreign brands still dominate among the top players.

Siemens offers a full line of FA products, occupying the high-end market across various production lines in China; it is promoting localized products in China, penetrating lower-tier markets.

Inovance is the top domestic player, with comprehensive coverage of FA production lines and strong capabilities in industry-specific machines and solutions. It is developing from the low-end to the high-end market, gradually substituting foreign brands.

ABB ranks first in the inverter industry with a high market share in the project-based market; it is developing localized automation products, establishing an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) team, and promoting full production line and full industry layout.

Mitsubishi covers all core FA products, selling under a dual-brand strategy to cover the high-, mid-, and low-end markets; it is deepening localized production and R&D, and has established a second localized brand in China - Lingling菱领.

FANUC positions its industrial robots and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) products in the high-end market, with a high degree of independent R&D for core components, and conducts localized production and R&D in China.

2. Discrete Automation Market - Localization Process

Products with a high localization rate include stepper systems, low-voltage motors, IPCs (Industrial PCs), machine vision, HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), low-voltage servos, and general-purpose servo systems, with localization rates all exceeding 50%.

The stepper system market has high concentration and an extremely high level of localization, with few foreign players; the low-voltage motor market is relatively mature with numerous domestic players; there are few foreign players in the IPC market, which is dominated by them in the high-end segment, while the mid- and low-end segments are mostly occupied by domestic brands. Machine vision is a technologically leading industry in China, with high concentration among domestic players and late entry by foreign brands. The number of domestic HMI players is continuously increasing, while foreign manufacturers promote "PLC (Programmable Logic Controller)+" solutions.
